Model T racing at Bruderheim
Model T racing at Bruderheim
Old-fashioned motor racing returns to Bruderheim this Saturday. Model T racing takes place at the Bruderheim Agricultural Grounds that day, featuring Model T car racing, motorcycle racing, a car show, vendors and a petting zoo.
Gates open at the Agricultural Grounds at 10 a.m. Admission is $15 for adults. Children 12 and under enter for free.
This is the sixth year for Model T racing in Bruderheim. The event also includes motocycle racing, live music, and children’s activities, including the Thistle Hill Petting Zoo.
Ford stopped making the Model T in 1927, but enthusiasts have rescued some survivors. They are helped by the fact parts for Model Ts are still being produced today.
Model T racing was a popular sport in Alberta in the 1940s. The biggest races took place in Calgary, organized by the Lions Club as a fundraiser. The last Calgary Lions Club race was held in 1951.
The current revival started in 2013 in High River, which held races annually until 2019. Bruderheim is now the primary Alberta home of this unique form of motor racing.
