City Council race gets hotter still
The race for Fort Saskatchewan City Council continues to heat up, with yet more candidates announcing this week.
Incumbent City Councillor Birgit Blizzard registered her nomination papers on Wednesday, Aug. 20, and former City Councillor John Mather also registered his intent to run that same day.
Blizzard has consistently supported local transit, the new pool and the second fire hall project.
Mather was elected in 2010, but lost his seat in 2013, and was turned down again in 2017.
That brings to 12 the total number of people seeking one of the six City Councillor seats come municipal election day on Oct. 20.
Blizzard and Mather are joined by incumbents Gordon Harris, Brian Kelly and Patrick Noyen, as well as Mayor Gale Katchur have registered to run for City Councillor. They face newcomers Pierre Lautischer, Greg Tonn, Stuart McGowan, Allan Wesley, Similoluwa Akintunde, and Tolulope Hans Aladejebi.
We missed Lautischer in the last edition. A member of the Rotary Club, Lautischer is a former private investigator, financial planner and is an Emergency Communications Officer with Edmonton Police Service.
Two candidates are now running for Mayor. Incumbent City Councillors Ajibola Abitoye filed her nomination on Aug. 15, and Lisa Makin filed on Jan. 2.
