Petition gains momentum in Fort
Petition gains momentum in Fort
The local effort to keep Alberta in Canada continues to gather steam as it enters its second month.
Volunteers with Forever Canada will be next to the Farmers' Market again this Thursday and every Thursday until the market season ends on Sept. 25.
The group now has more than 4,000 canvassers.
Forever Canada was launched by former Alberta deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk earlier this month after his citizen initiative petition was approved by Elections Alberta. The petition asks that the question "Do you agree that Alberta should remain in Canada?" be put to Alberta voters. Organizers have until Oct. 28 to gather at least 293,976 names.
Only eligible electors can sign the petition, which is to say they must be Canadian citizens at least 18 years of age living in Alberta.
