Pink Shirt rally helps BGC Fort Sask.
Fort Saskatchewan's marked Pink Shirt Day with a march and some $10,000 in donations for BGC Fort Saskatchewan Wednesday, Feb. 25.
The annual event calls for an end to bullying, and included a declaration by Deputy Mayor Birgit Blizzard. Several other members of City Council also participated, as did Families First Society board members and staff.
About 100 youths and adults marched from the BGC clubhouse to the Co-op Station Square grocery store for the rally, that also included cupcakes from the store bakery.
Co-op also gave the club a cheque for $6,250 raised by store patrons.
Winners Way Source for Sports was another major sponsor for the event, providing BGC Fort Saskatchewan with pink shirts that were sold for further funds.
Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 when two Nova Scotia teenagers encouraged their fellow students to wear pink T-shirts in support of a pupil who was being bullied.
Fort Saskatchewan has held a Pink Shirt Day annually since at least 2010.
