Provincial budget hikes Fort taxes
Fort property taxes are rising even faster, thanks to Alberta’s new budget.
The education portion of Fort property taxes will rise by an average of 9.85 per cent or about $114.
This follows big hikes in the education tax charged to Fort homeowners over the last several years. It rose by 10.02 per cent in 2025 and 4.46 per cent in 2024. In both cases this was about twice as much as the hike in the municipal portion of your property tax bill.
The municipal portion of the local property tax bill is set to rise by 7.4 peer cent this year.
The recent rise in local assessments does not affect the municipal portion of the property tax hike, but does have an impact on the education tax.
Other new taxes in the 2026 Alberta budget include a hike in the tourism fee paid when renting hotel rooms, and a new six per cent tax on vehicle rentals.
Several fees will rise, including admission fees to provincial parks and museums.
The income threshold to receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit has been reduced, which will cut the benefit for some seniors. And the tax credit for Alberta caregivers has been cut.
The Alberta government is forecasting a $9.4 billion deficit this year, blamed primarily on lower than expected oil prices and therefore lower resource revenue.
Fort Saskatchewan’s final property tax rate will be set next month in time for notices to be sent ahead of the June payment deadline.
